Growing up as a daughter of professional seamstresses, I was never interested in my parent's career. But now as I am finding my way though life, it’s ironic that I find sewing to be so natural and fluid. It is as if the craft was always there just waiting for me to find it.

Portland, Oregon has taught me to value the art of handmade items and the DIY (do it yourself) ethic after moving from New York City in 1998. It has definitely heightened my awareness of retail labor in correlation to fair wages and made me realize the true impact and power of consumerism.

With this in mind I have consistently supported the efforts of small and local businesses, and am hopeful the DIY spirit will be sustained locally through neve.
